Derbsyhire signs Liam Hurt on a short-term loan

Derbyshire face Nottinghamshire from May 19 and Hurt – the Lancashire dressmaker – effectively replaces Ryan Sidebottom in Mickey Arthur’s squad.

Liam Hurt has joined Derbyshire on a short-term loan for their final LV = Insurance County championship game from the first batch of games.

Derbyshire take on Nottinghamshire from May 19, and Hurt – the Lancashire dressmaker – effectively replaces Ryan Sidebottom in Mickey Arthur’s squad.

Sidebottom was loaned out by Warwickshire but suffered a recurrence of the hamstring injury which forced him off the pitch just seven balls down on his debut against Middlesex on the opening day of the season.

County have been plagued with injury problems for their tailors, with Ben Aitchison battling a back problem and Luis Reece having played only as a hitter so far as he speeds up his own recovery.

“Liam is a good fast thrower with a lot of talent so I can’t wait to see what he can do for us this week,” Arthur said.

Hurt has played just three first-class games so far, but added: “I want to play more first-class cricket and there is a great setup at Derbyshire with Mickey Arthur and his coaching staff.

“The club have had a good start to the season and I hope to contribute this week and also test myself again in the red ball format.”
