Ijaw youths around the world have described Governor Douye Diri’s decision to approach the State Legislature for a N30 billion loan to launch the project as ‘outstanding’ and ‘a step in the right direction’ Nembe-Brass road.
The youths under the umbrella of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) said that the approval and decision to launch the estimated 100 billion project will encourage the Federal Government and other multinational oil companies, especially the Nigerian Agip Oil Company (NAOC ) to see the sincerity of purpose on the part of the Bayelsa State Government and support the laudable project to its logical conclusion.
According to the IYC, the Nembe-Brass road will be more beneficial for the workers of multinational oil companies and will open the hidden water and oil business center in the Bayelsa East Senatorial District open to the world and encourage a secure future for the river areas of the state.
The IYC, in a statement released by its National Spokesperson, Mr. Ebilade Ekerefe, also hailed the leadership of the State House of Assembly led by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Abraham Ingobere for quickly approving the loan proposal.
According to Ekerefe, the Nembe-Brass road is very strategic for the economic transformation of the state as the Brass LNG project, the Brass fertilizer project are all located in the Brass local government area.
He reiterated that only a passionate and detribalized leader will apply for a N30 billion loan facility to embark on projects outside his local government area for the overall development of the state.
“While we call on stakeholders to be optimistic about Governor Diri’s quest for a prosperous Bayelsa, we urge multinational oil companies, especially the Nigerian company Agip Oil (NAOC) and other political actors in the region to support the “Quick completion of the project. It’s in everyone’s interest,” Ekerefe said.
The IYC also congratulated Governor Douye Diri on his emergence as the Daily Independent Newspaper’s Governor of the Year, describing the award as well-deserved.
They said local youth were not surprised that the Governor General of the Ijaw Nation was singled out among his colleagues for this category.
The leading Ijaw youth body pointed out that Governor Diri’s performance in Bayelsa State, the Niger Delta region and the nation as a whole speaks volumes about his ability.
