Kenedy ‘surprised’ by Chelsea’s sudden recall from Flamengo loan as he returns to Cobham after saying goodbye

The Blues recalled the 25-year-old to Stamford Bridge yesterday after being hit with injuries in defence.

Ben Chilwell and Reece James are both long-time victims and Thomas Tuchel has so far failed to bring Emerson Palmieri back from Lyon.

The versatile Brazilian admits Tuchel’s decision came out of nowhere as he only found out about the news when the Flamengo loan team ordered him back to London.

Speaking at Rio de Janeiro airport, Kenedy said: “I was taken by surprise. I found out last night around 11:00 p.m. Everything was very fast.

“Chelsea had a contract with Flamengo. They asked me to introduce myself and I introduce myself.

“It was Flamengo who told me. I’m just fulfilling the contract.

Kenedy, who signed a new contract last summer, could now try to be a wing-back in Chelsea’s five-man system.

He made just 15 Premier League appearances for the Blues, his last coming in 2016.

But the former £6million Fluminense youngster could still be set for another loan move, with Shakhtar Donetsk linked.

This is because Chelsea will continue to push for Emerson’s return.

And if Lyon were to finally give in, there might not be a place for Kenedy in the European champions’ squad.
