The Lagos State Government has announced the introduction of a new Resident Card with multi-purpose features for residents.
The new card, which replaces the old ID card, has more built-in features and functions that will allow cardholders to enjoy and access faster and better services.
This was made known by the Managing Director of the Lagos State Residents Registration Agency (LASRRA), Engr. (Ms) Ibilola Kasunmu, known during a 2-day workshop held for media personnel at her office in Ikeja, Lagos.
Kasunmu explained that the new card has 28 applets for different services including, but not limited to, loan applications from the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF), the payment for services from multiple providers, including BRT buses, ferry services and ATMs. (ATMs).

LASRRA’s boss in her statement said: “The card also serves as a means of personal security and identity verification at government service supply points, in addition to the fact that the resident card holder can use it for services such as permit processing. driving and filing tax returns, among other things.
Kasunmu, in an impassioned appeal, asked residents to pre-register at www.lagosresidents.gov.ng, after which they will proceed to the nearest registration station located throughout the state with proof of address and ID. identity for biometric capture.
She also assured that registration is transparent, free and does not require any form of stress, urging those who registered before 2019 and those who changed their name and address to validate their information on the site.
She explained, “The old ID card was made of plastic and its functionality was very limited. Thus, holders of the old card must upgrade because the life of the card has been reduced from 10 years to five years. This is to allow flexibility to integrate more functionality and expand usability due to rapidly changing technology trends.”
The chief executive, in her projection, said that at least 6 million Lagos residents would have access to the new card by the end of 2022.
Going further, she said, “The impact of technology on the global identification landscape includes making it cheaper and easier to accurately identify people, as well as providing faster access to services. With the Lagos ID card, our children can easily access primary to secondary education services in the state.
“My appeal to all people in Lagos is that we should all maximize this opportunity to enable us to have access to faster and better services from the state government.”
