Chandigarh: The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) comprising the Punjab Lok Congress and Shiromani Akali Dal (Sanyukt) released its 11-point vision document (Sankalp Patra) to woo voters ahead of the elections in the State Assembly. The alliance’s ‘Sankalp Patra’ places special emphasis on eliminating drugs and the mafia in Punjab and bringing prosperity to its farmers. The document talks about job creation, quality health care, education and cheap electricity. When releasing the document, Union Minister and senior BJP official Hardeep Singh Puri said that Punjab was plagued by poor governance. Here are the promises made by the covenant:
Lokayukta strong
If elected to power, the alliance has promised to use the latest technology modeled after central security agencies to eradicate the mafia regime. Lokayukta will be strengthened to eradicate the sand, dirt and alcohol mafia in Punjab, in addition to cracking the whip on unlicensed liquor businesses. A mining authority will be put in place to prevent illegal mining. The Citizens Charter Act will be strictly enforced for the timely delivery of government services, while transparent e-tendering will be introduced to eradicate corruption and monopolies in government contracts.
Nominees anti-doping test
Dope mandatory tests before completing the nomination for elections. Fast-track courts will be set up to expedite the settlement of drug-related cases. A free drug prevention hotline will be launched while cash rewards will be given on information relating to the sale of drugs.
Agricultural loan waivers
After facing the heat of three farm bills, the alliance made a special effort to appease farmers by promising farm loan waivers for all farmers with less than five acres of land. MSP for fruits, vegetables, pulses and oilseeds. An annual budget of Rs 5,000 crore would be sanctioned to promote crop diversification and an annual financial aid of Rs 6,000 for each landless farmer on the model of Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Yojana. The promise was also made to allocate one lakh acres of shamlat land to landless farmers for cultivation. Incomplete irrigation projects will be completed in priority and new irrigation projects will be started under Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana.
