Jacob Wakeling is the latest loan start and he made his debut this weekend for Barrow AFC. The striker has played in the U.23 setup so far and hasn’t been involved much in the first-team setup. Sam Hughes had a few inlcusions on the bench but he never got a taste of the Premier League, this weekend he was back in action for Burton Albion.

Sam Hughes is still a Leicester player, but not quite as highly rated as we’d like academy players to be as we’ve seen Josh Knight, Elliott Moore and Darnel Johnson all seen as too light.

Since joining Leicester from Chester, Sam has been a good and reliable source in the U.23 setup, and has also been on loan at Salford United, playing 8 games. Last season he played 14 league games for Burton Albion and scored twice. This season, he returned to the team in this last game against Gillingham.

Burton Albion are currently 12th in League One, and the solid 3-1 away win at Gillingham really shows how they are fighting under their manager Jimmy Floyd-Hasselbaink.

Hopefully Sam Hughes will continue to impress and steer clear of injury problems as it has upended his progression and at the age of 24 he could see a return to Leicester and the first team as impossible.

Jacob Wakeling joined Leicester in 2020 and has scored in the U.23 formation after being scouted for Alvechurch scoring 5 goals in 7 appearances. He got off to the perfect start on his loan spell by making his debut against Colchester at the weekend, helping his side to a fine 2-0 away win. Wakeling left the field in the 2nd half with a 1-0 lead at the time. He joined Leicester from Alvechurch and the striker will give us a quick glimpse into the past with two former club agitators also joining from this non-Championship club, Nick Cusack and Alan Smith.

The Leicester players currently on loan are Dennis Praet (Torino), Tyrese Shade (Walsall), Thakgalo Leshabela (Shrewsbury), George Hirst (Portsmouth), Callum Wright (Cheltenham), Jacob Wakeling (Barrow) and Daniel Iversen (Preston).
